# Devices

Your device is your gear. You need one to play.

Every device has three stats:

| Stat    | What it does                                                                                          |
| ------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Boost | Multiplies your score at the end of each song, and your crowns. A device with 1.5x boost scores 1.5x. |
| Battery | How many songs you can play before it needs to recharge. It recharges over time. |
| Life | How many songs it can ever play. Life never comes back. |

Each song uses one charge and one play of life, however long the song is. At zero life a device stops playing. It stays in your account, but you can't sell it on the market.

## Rarity

Devices come in five rarities: common, uncommon, rare, epic and legendary. A rarer device is better at everything:

* More boost, from about 1x on a common up to 3x on the best legendaries.
* A bigger battery, so you play more songs a day.
* A longer life.
* Bigger rewards. A great run on a rarer device earns more gems and better drop chances before rewards start to slow down. See [What a run gives](/beatking-docs/rewards/rewards.md).

## The launch devices

Five devices come out at launch. Each comes in one or two rarities, and its finish shows which.

| Device  | Rarities         |
| ------- | ---------------- |
| TAPEMAN | common, uncommon |
| SPEAKER | common, uncommon |
| BOOMBOX | uncommon, rare   |
| HIFI    | rare, epic       |
| DJ DECK | epic, legendary  |

A mint shows both at once: RARE BOOMBOX.

## Where devices come from

You [mint](/beatking-docs/rewards/minting.md) devices at the MAKE-A-RIG Machine with gems and SOL, or buy them from other players on the [market](/beatking-docs/rewards/trading.md).

## Using your devices

Any device plays any song on any difficulty. Each device has its own battery, so more devices mean more songs a day. Your devices carry over into the next season.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://beatking.gitbook.io/beatking-docs/gear/devices.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
